Walsom River

Location

Walsom River runs to the east of Independence, from the Lowell foothills in the north, down south into Lake MacCabre, for a total length of about 80 kilometres. Whilst it is neither a large, nor a particularly fast-flowing river, the murky, plant-filled waters make swimming in it an uninviting prospect. With five road bridges, one railway bridge and a dozen or so pedestrian bridges, crossed Walsom river is not a big issue.

About two miles up from Lake MacCabre it passes below the low hill of Lookout Point, a favourite spot for young lovers and high school students to drive out to in pursuit of amorous liasons.
