A middle-aged woman with thin, constantly pursed lips
Sheriff Deborah ‘Debs’ Jones has been the head of law enforcement in Independence for nearly twenty years, winning five consecutive elections, at times fending off some stiff competition. She has deep roots in the local community and is known to favour a light-touch approach to crime she considers unimportant (truancy, youth delinquancy etc.), but pursues more serious crimes with the tenacity of a pit bull.
More than a few townspeople attribute the general atmosphere of security and safety that reigns in Independence to be directly attributable to Sheriff Jones and her brave deputies. If there are other townspeople who mutter about an uneven application of the law, well they are not so very loud in their muttering and anywya, are few and far between.
